Before you start

  • You are an owner or admin of the Skylane workspace.
  • Slack: you can create apps in your Slack workspace (some companies limit this to Slack admins).
  • Discord: you have the Manage Webhooks permission on the server.

Steps

  1. Step 1

    Slack: create an app

Go to api.slack.com/apps (opens in a new tab), click Create New App, choose From scratch, name it (for example Skylane alerts), pick your workspace and click Create App.

  2. Step 2

    Slack: switch on incoming webhooks

In the app's settings, click Incoming Webhooks and switch Activate Incoming Webhooks on.

  3. Step 3

Slack: add the webhook to a channel

Click Add New Webhook to Workspace, choose the channel and click Authorize. Copy the URL under Webhook URLs for Your Workspace. It starts with https://hooks.slack.com/services/.

  4. Step 4

    Discord: create a webhook

In Discord, open Server Settings, then Integrations, then Webhooks. Click New Webhook, choose the channel, then click Copy Webhook URL. It starts with https://discord.com/api/webhooks/.

    3. Webhooks
    4. New Webhook
  5. Step 5

    Paste the URL into Skylane

In Skylane open Settings, then Notifications. In Slack, Discord and webhook, paste the URL into Slack webhook URL or Discord webhook URL and click Add Slack or Add Discord.

  6. Step 6

Tick the events for that channel

Scroll up to the Alerts table. A new Slack or Discord column appears: switch on the events it should receive. These ticks save straight away.

Good to know

  • A channel that fails 20 times in a row is paused. Fix the URL, then click Turn back on.
  • Treat webhook URLs like passwords: anyone with the URL can post to the channel.

Common problems

"Enter a full URL starting with https://"

Copy the whole webhook URL again from Slack or Discord - it must start with https://.

Nothing arrives in the channel

Check you ticked at least one event in the Alerts table for that column, and that the channel still exists. Deleting a Slack app or Discord webhook breaks the URL.
