Fixing the most common posting errors

When a post fails, Skylane shows a plain-English reason on the post. Here are the most common ones and how to fix them. After fixing, click Retry on the post.

Account needs reconnecting

Why: the platform has ended Skylane's access - often after a password change, a security check, a permissions change or because the connection reached its expiry date. Fix: open Accounts, click Reconnect next to the account and sign in again. Step-by-step: Reconnect an account.

You no longer have permission to post here

Why: your role on a Facebook Page or LinkedIn company page has changed or been removed. Fix: ask a page admin to restore your posting access, then reconnect. Step-by-step: Facebook Page access or LinkedIn Page admin roles.

Caption is too long

Why: the caption is over the platform's limit (for example 280 characters on X for standard accounts, 300 on Bluesky, 500 on Threads, 2,200 on Instagram). Fix: shorten that platform's caption in the composer, or turn it into a thread where supported.

Media format or size not supported

Why: the file type, size, length or aspect ratio is outside what the platform accepts. Fix: the error tells you which rule failed. Common fixes: export video as MP4 (H.264, AAC audio), keep Reels and TikTok videos vertical (9:16), and keep images as JPG or PNG.

Video is too long for this account

Why: each platform, and sometimes each account, has a maximum video length. Fix: trim the video, or choose a different post type (for example a YouTube video instead of a Short).

Daily posting limit reached

Why: some platforms (such as Instagram and TikTok) limit how many posts an account can publish through apps in 24 hours. Fix: move the post to later, or click Retry at next available time.

Instagram account is not a professional account

Fix: switch to a Business or Creator account linked to a Facebook Page, then reconnect. Step-by-step: Switch Instagram to a professional account.

TikTok privacy option not available

Why: the privacy level you picked is not allowed for this account, or branded content was set to Only me. Fix: choose one of the options shown in the composer. Step-by-step: Choose TikTok privacy and disclosure settings.

X link post allowance used up

Fix: put the link in a reply or in your bio, wait for your allowance to reset next month, or upgrade your plan. On Agency, extra X link posts are charged per post.

Platform temporarily unavailable

Why: the platform timed out or had an outage. What happens: Skylane retries automatically. You only need to act if the post shows Needs you after retries.
