RSS and blog auto-post

RSS auto-post is available on Creator and above. Editors, admins and owners can set it up.

Add a feed

  1. Open RSS feeds in the app menu and click Add a feed.
  2. Paste the feed address. RSS and Atom feeds both work, podcasts included. The address must start with https://.
  3. Choose the accounts to post to.
  4. Write the caption template. You can use {title}, {link}, {summary}, {hashtags} and {snippet} (a saved caption from your Library).
  5. Choose a hashtag set or type extra hashtags, and the image to use: the feed's own image, the article's preview image (og:image) or none.
  6. Choose what happens when a new item arrives:
    • Create a draft for review (the default): nothing goes out until someone schedules it.
    • Add to the queue: the post takes each account's next free queue time.
    • Schedule at the best time: the post takes the next free best time, or the queue if there is none.
  7. Optionally switch on UTM tags. Skylane adds utm_source (the network), utm_medium=social and your utm_campaign to the link.
  8. Click Preview to see how the latest items would look, then Add feed.

What gets posted

  • Only items published after you add the feed. Everything already in the feed is recorded as seen and never posted.
  • Each item is posted once. Skylane recognises items by their guid (or Atom id), otherwise by their link.
  • Items more than 7 days old are skipped.
  • Each network gets a caption that fits its limit. The summary is shortened first, then the title. The link is kept.
  • Automatic posts run the same pre-flight checks as any other post. If one fails, for example an Instagram post with no image, it is kept as a draft with the reason.

Skylane checks each feed about every 30 minutes and waits longer after errors. A feed that fails 10 checks in a row stops until you click Resume.

Safety

Skylane only reads feeds over https from public internet addresses, follows at most 3 redirects, reads at most 2 MB per feed and 8 MB per image, and gives up after 15 seconds.

If your plan changes

If the workspace moves to the Free plan, its feeds pause. They start again when you resume them on Creator or above.
