Before you start
- Your Instagram account is a professional account (Business or Creator). Personal accounts cannot be published to by any app.
- It is linked to a Facebook Page you manage. Skylane connects Instagram through Facebook Login, as Meta requires.
- Not sure about either? Follow Switch Instagram to a professional account and link a Facebook Page first. It takes about 5 minutes and is free.
- You are the owner or an admin of the Skylane workspace. Other roles cannot connect accounts.
Steps
- Step 1
Open Accounts in Skylane
In the left-hand menu, click Accounts. Scroll to the Connect an account section, where each network has its own card.
Where to find it in Skylane- Accounts
- Connect an account
- Step 2
Click Connect Instagram
On the Instagram card, click Connect Instagram. Facebook's login window opens, because Instagram business publishing runs through Meta's Facebook Login.

Sign in with the Facebook account that manages the Page
Use the personal Facebook account that has access to the Facebook Page your Instagram account is linked to.
- Step 4
Select the Page and the Instagram account
When Facebook asks which Pages and Instagram accounts to share, select the Page and the Instagram account linked to it. Leave every permission switched on and continue.
- Step 5
Choose what to add
Back in Skylane, a box called Choose what to add from Instagram appears. Tick each one you want to schedule to - each counts as one social account on your plan - then click the Add button (it shows how many you ticked, for example Add 1 account).

Check it says Connected
Under Connected accounts, your Instagram account now shows a green Connected badge. You can click Queue times next to it to set the days and times you like to post.

Good to know
- You can post feed posts, carousels (2 to 10 items), Reels and Stories, with captions, alt text, cover images and a first comment.
- Instagram limits how many posts an account can publish through apps in 24 hours. If you reach it, Skylane publishes once the window frees up.
- Music from Instagram's own library can only be added inside the Instagram app.
Common problems
"This account is not a professional account"
Switch to Business or Creator, then click Reconnect in Skylane. See Switch Instagram to a professional account.
The Instagram account is not in the list
It is not linked to a Facebook Page you can manage, or it was not selected on Facebook's screen. Link it (steps in the prerequisites guide), then click Connect Instagram again and select it.
Instagram flagged the activity as possible spam
Open the Instagram app, check for a warning, confirm the activity is yours, then retry the post later.
